Looks like a fancy burger, taste like a messy, delicious burger

Dark Haus Burger 

I tried Dark Haus in Boulder after it opened up and I have to say I am drooling just looking at the picture. I order the california burger and the vegetarian and they were some of the tastiest burger I have had in a while. Usually I tend to back away from fancy looking burger places as I feel the portions are not worth the price, but these burgers were filling and it did help of course to have a 2 for 1 coupon ; D. The atmosphere of the place is great too. It makes me feel so chic. I felt like I just needed a nice pair of hipster glasses and a beret and the meal would be complete. I have to say though the best part was the fries. I love crispy fries (Yes, I'm the type that likes the super hard fries at the bottom of the McDonalds container) and these ones were extra crispy.

I have always preferred street food, but sometimes it's hard in a country where you don't know your way around to find the right food. I have always loved takoyaki, so when I went to Japan that was what I was looking forward to eating the most. Takoyaki is a fried octopus ball often served with scallions and mayo (I know, it even sounds mouthwatering). I was hoping I could try it in some sort of night market or street festival because I always feel that mood enhances the tasting experience, but unfortunately I had a lot of trouble getting around Tokyo. I ended up trying it at a food court in the Diver City mall, and I have to say it was still delicious! Another thing I ended up picking up in the food court was yakisoba. I am guilty of making instant yakisoba at home, so this was definitely a step up! Lots of flavor and just the right amount of sweetness!

Hong Shao Niu Rou Mian 

This is the hong shao niu rou mian from Lee Yuan in Boulder. Hong shao niu rou mian, what could be translated as beef noodle soup, is a traditional Taiwanese dish. The dish was amazingly tasty. I frequently go back to Taiwan to visit my grandparents and relatives, and though it can not rival the hong shao niu rou mian sold in local restaurants, Lee Yuan's version of the noodle dish was extremely authentic! The beef was soft and chewy, the noodles were nice in texture, and the soup had a lot of heat and flavor. The thing I miss the most about Taiwan, besides my family of course, is the food, so being able to have a taste of it here in the U.S. makes me feel more at home : )
